Indian Lakes Resort

July 11 - 15, 2007, Bloomingdale, Il

Maasim Tovim Awards

Richard Gray, New England Region

Richard has been a stalwart of the New England Region for over 15 years. He worked his way up the ladder of leadership to be the Region's President 2001-2003. He is also known for all of his behind the scenes efforts on behalf of the Region and the Laymen's Institute. Richard views his most important good deed to be the establishment of the Region's Keeper of the Flame event, with the support of then Region President Lester Macklin. At the International level Richard serves on the Executive Committee, was Program Chairman for the 2005 Convention in Florida, serves as Co-Chairman and Torch Award Chairman for the 2007 Convention in Chicago and is a Keruv Consultant. He enjoys promoting innovation while working with Rabbi Simon and FJMC leaders from across the country in the planning and executing of programs.

After more years than anyone can remember as President of the Brotherhood of Temple Emeth in Chestnut Hill, MA, thanks to Phil Platcow, Richard became past president. He and Lillian have been honored by Israel Bonds and he was a Brotherhood Man of the Year, a tradition he earlier started at Temple Emeth. The tradition of the Man of the Year includes a round of songs written to roast the recipient. The songs written for Richard by Norma Levine included: “Email Now” and “We are the Brotherhood of Men”.

Richard serves on the board of Hebrew College in Newton, Camp Ramah in Palmer, and Mercaz, and continues his support for Israel Bonds as a Co-Chairman at Temple Emeth. He participated in a most inspiring World Zionist Organization Congress in Jerusalem in June 2006 as an alternate delegate.

Richard's parents were holocaust survivors from Gottingen and Frankfurt Germany. After being brought up in Hollywood, Florida he attended MIT and Penn State with degrees in Mechanical Engineering, and worked over two decades at Millipore Corporation developing new test equipment and processes.

Richard's passions are for geeking, organizing teams, desktop publishing, photography, and sailing, while enjoying his wife Lillian and daughters Rebecca and Jessica as they find their way through life.
