2019 Convention – Spouses’ Perspective

by Randi Singer

We’re not in Kansas anymore ….

Any chance I have to travel is one I won’t refuse. Upon hearing this year’s convention was in Toronto was no different. David encouraged me to download the FJMC app so I could schedule activities with other spouses/significant others and see the daily schedules. Traveling with others to the Textile Museum and the Jewish walking tour made exploring the city less intimidating. I had instant friends to chat with and go out to lunch. Conversation always flowed easily. Everyone was friendly, shared stories about their families and hometowns and seemed pleased to be there.

Being from Boston, many people knew my city from visiting there previously for the convention in Danvers, Mass in 2015. New friends talked about their experiences and excursions in Boston. The 2019 hotel location by the harbor, terrific catering and general camaraderie made me excited to get together with others during meals and other activities.

I also saw how many people were excited to see David and requested a few minutes with him to discuss some issues. (I was finally hanging out with the cool crowd.)  Looking forward to learning the location of the 2021 convention, so I can start researching places I want to visit and meeting new friends.
